DVD Synopsis
Ellen Burstyn stars in this warm family drama. Mattie (Burstyn) is an aging southern belle who realizes that she's getting too old to go on living in a house. After an odd encounter with the local dogcatcher Lamar (Mark Hamill), Mattie befriends Lamar's bad-egg nephew, Wesley (Jonathan Taylor Thomas). Soon he betrays her trust and escapes from juvenile detention. ~ Jonathan Crow, All Movie Guide

I liked this movie particularly because of the relationship between the grandmother and the "fugitive teen". This is a movie of relationships. It presents the story of an elderly woman (Burstyn) who is churning at the bit to live her own life, whilst buffeting the blows from her daughter who seems committed to putting her into a nursing home. Her son is not married ,visits her often, and agrees with her views. Burstyn hears of the plight of the dog catcher's cousin (Thomas) who is in a rehabilitation center and takes him cake and iced tea. As she becomes woven into the teen's life, she becomes much happier and so does he. Her daughter and son consider him a "felon" and want her to quit helping him. He is finally caught and returned to the center. Burstyn rescues him and he becomes part of her family. It's a lovely ending.

This movie is one that the whole family will enjoy. You will laugh, and you will cry. It is definately a favorite of mine, that I must have watched atleast five times so far. Rarely does a movie now days, have a message in it that we can all learn from. You'll love this one! Grab some popcorn, kleenex, and the kids, and enjoy the movie.
