DVD Synopsis

Shirley Maclaine stars as a reclusive piano player in this made-for-television movie based on the play by Ernest Thompson. Maclaine plays Margaret Mary Elderdice, a loner-type who befriends her next-door neighbor and violinist Cara Varnum (Liza Minnelli) only so the two can play music together. This is a very sweet story of 4 women who are lonely, and who learn to be better friends in a New York apartment building. Shirley is a female "old biddy" who likes to be left alone and is extremely critical. Liza plays the role of the simpering spinster, who grovels for any bit of kindness from Shirley. Kathy Bates is the philosopher-type bag lady and is hilarious. Jennifer comes into their lives, fresh from a divorce, aspiring to become an actress. They try to get her a boyfriend and an acting job. She runs away from all this devotion. See it to find out out it ends . It's great!
