This softcore sex romp borrows heavily from Emmanuelle but still has plenty to offer in other areas. Fans of the genre are likely to enjoy Felicity because it takes a lighthearted, romantic approach to erotica that makes it fun to watch even when it is marking time between sex scenes. Glory Annen makes an attractive yet natural-looking starlet, and her story takes the form of an engaging travelogue-style narrative that explores every opportunity to indulge in erotic goings-on. However, the best thing about Felicity is the thorough approach it takes in delivering the sexy goods; the filmmakers wisely set the action in Hong Kong to give the film an exotic flair, and director John Lamond gives the film a glossy look that does an effective job of expressing its overheated mood in visual terms. It's also the rare film in this genre in which the main character learns something about love while pursuing sex, an aspect that further enhances its appeal. Severin Films has done a lovely job on a rare title with their DVD edition of Felicity. The transfer was taken from the director's vault print and looks fantastic for something that wasn't transferred from a negative source; there's a slight bit of fading in a few scenes, but this transfer otherwise does a lovely job of capturing the film's lush look, especially the dazzling neon colors of Hong Kong's nightlife. In terms of audio, the disc uses the original mono mix and it's pretty robust for a non-stereo track, with especially crisp dialogue and music. The extras consist of a rather randy trailer, a still gallery that is equally racy, and a commentary track that reunites director John Lamond with star Glory Annen. The latter feature is the best, offering a nice mix of production trivia, discussion of artistic matters, and even some interesting theorizing about aesthetic issues regarding both filmmaking and erotica. All in all, this is a fine special edition that is guaranteed to delight sexploitation buffs. ~ Donald Guarisco, All Movie Guide
