Cult Video's DVD of
Tourist Trap delivers this lesser-known cult favorite in a package that is surprisingly nice for a low-priced title. The print that Cult used for the transfer shows its age, especially around reel changes, but delivers a vivid and surprisingly colorful widescreen image that further benefits from anamorphic enhancement. The audio is limited to mono but delivers the film's soundtrack (especially its creepy musical score) with a reasonable amount of sonic punch. In terms of extras, =Tourist Trap features the film's original theatrical trailer, a variety of trailers for other Cult Video titles like
Parasite and Slave Girls From Beyond Infinity, cast lists for the film's actors, and a short interview with director
David Schmoeller. The director also did a full-length commentary for the film; there is the occasional silent patch, but Schmoeller delivers plenty of information in a low-key style, including both insights into low-budget filmmaking and fun tidbits about the film's cast and crew (ex. the director of photography was the son of the legendary
Josef von Sternberg). In short, =Tourist Trap is a worthwhile edition of this film for its fans and well-worth a look for cult movie fans in search of some vintage spookiness. ~ Donald Guarisco, All Movie Guide
