Anyone?  I see this next to the name of some DVD titles.

Pan and Scan. That's how they make wide-screen movies full-frame. They can't include everything that's on the wide screen version so they "pan" around the available image, choosing what they think is most important, and cutting off what doesn't fit.

In practice, it works well. But just knowing that there was more to the image that has been removed after the film was made bugs the heck out of me so I always choose widescreen movies if I have an option.

Thanks Bob.  I feel the same way so I usually choose widescreen over full screen.

I had no clue that one of my movies was p&s before I ordered it, so it's already on the way.  I don't know if I'll like it more or less than the regular version.

I always wondered that as well.  I prefer widescreen, fullscreen looks stretched and distorted on my television.
