OK folks. Let's hear your top 10 War movies. Feel free to come back and update your list if you need to. It will help us see what other members like and maybe even give us ideas of what to check out next! Here we go:

Apocalypse Now

**Band of Brothers** (cheating a bit here since it's a made for TV mini series but it is incredible)

Das Boot

The Pianist

Patton

Pork Chop Hill

Saving Private Ryan

Stalingrad

The Story of G.I. Joe

The Thin Red Line

Uprising

Apocalypse Now, Band of Brothers and Patton in a dead heat for my favorite war "movie" of all time.

Ellie,

Agreed. Band of Brothers is fantastic and definitely would be in my top ten. I discounted it as it was an HBO series. (Hmmm...looks like I should have discounted Uprising for the same reason). But it ranks right up there with Patton in my mind. By the way, thanks for the info. on the 2 other war movies you are shipping my way right now. I love this genre and have about 100 of them.

Glory - I agree with Ellie and Tangie. Also very good - just got nudged out of my top 10. I really enjoyed Full Metal Jacket and The Longest Day as well. Have any of you seen "A Midnight Clear?" Also a very good intense movie on the individual soldier level. It raises some interesting questions about war and courage and personalizes the experience more than the epic battle movies. It would be in my top 15 or 20.

Speaking of which, I may need to make this a Top 15 or 20 list before too long. I have some serious contenders for top spots in my collection that I have not had time to watch yet including:

Come and See, Downfall, both Flags of our Fathers and Letters to Iwo Jima, Schindler's List, a Walk in the Sun, and The Winter War.

Here's hoping a very peaceful day to you all!

It's really hard now that I'm remembering more that I really liked. Like Das Boot, A Bridge Too Far, and The Great Escape.

I haven't seen A Midnight Clear, but I've heard good things about it. And I forgot Schindler's List. I may have to rethink my top 10.

#1-  PATTON

#2-  THE LONGEST DAY

#3-  IN HARM'S WAY

#4-  MIDWAY

#5-  BATTLE OF BRITAIN

#6-  DAS BOOT

#7-  THE BLUE MAX

#8-  SINK THE BISMARCK

#9-  TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH

#10-  THE BRIDGE AT REMAGEN

This is my Top 10 and I chose the older films because I feel these were more authentic due to using advisers who served in world war 2 and still had a very good memory of those battles they fought in. Also these films were made by the people who actually lived in that era and could best relate that experience to the picture.
