I've always wondered what "o-ring" is referring to. Particularly, seems to be something only used on this site (by mems). What is an o-ring? |

Common usage is a ring-shaped gasket made of a flexible material. An o-ring burning through caused the space shuttle Challenger disaster. As used on this site, it appears to mean a cardboard slipcover that goes over the dvd case. Curiously, this use may derive from the term "obi" (Japanese for belt) as books in Japan are sometimes published with a narrow paper ring over the dustjacket. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Obi_%28publishing%29

It means a slipcover? |

That's what I gathered from Kathryn's post ^.~ I've always called it "a slipcover with a window over the UPC", I can see how hers is less cumbersome. |

Yup; here "o-ring" = slipcover! |

That is hilarious! I always thought it was something on the disc. . .could not figure it out. Why "o-ring"? Nothing is shaped o-like, and nothing is a ring. . .I'll just keep saying slipcover. Is that some kind of regional thing? |

My first though out-of-context would be that it was a small spindle sticker. |

I thought "o ring" was a small round sticker around the center hole if a disc. Best to call it a slipcover to avoid confusion. |
