HI! I've been reading a lot of vampire books lately, and now wonder if there are some really great vampire movies out there.  What's your favorites?

Near Dark is one of my all time faves.  The Brides of Dracula is one of my faves, its from the 60's.  Click this link to the top 70 vampire films of all time.  Vamp is a cool one too, its vampire strip club... an 80's classic.

You can always start at the beginning with "Nosferatu", the 1922 silent film starring Max Schreck.

There's a Swedish film called Let the Right One In that has a limited release right now. I highly recommend it.

Lots of good ones mentioned here. I'll mention a little known but very unique movie called Children of the Night. Excellent stuff.

Let the Right One In is by far the best vampire movie. Don't be fooled by the others, Near Dark is number two on the list.

I watched Let the Right One In the other week and I fail to see the hype in it.   I found it rather boring and slow even though I knew it wasn't a true horror movie, I couldn't help but feel let down

I'm with Jason on this one. I just bought and watched the film "Let The Right One In" and I don't understand what so many have seen in the film. I waited to get the newer release of the film that included the theatrical cut on the english subtitles and the dialog in the film is still very lacking. The idea behind the film is something they could have made into a masterpiece. I also found the film boring and way too slow for my tastes. I did get a good laugh after viewing the film originally in Swedish with the English subtitles then wanting to see what it'd sound like with English dubbed voices it is horrible. If you're going to watch this film I'd recommend using the subtitles.

I'm with Mike. Thought "Let the Right One In" was excellent.

"...I don't understand what so many have seen in the film."

  • creative idea
  • interesting location
  • excellent cinematography
  • chemistry betwen the two lead characters
  • theme of the two misfits finding each other and bonding
  • pays homage to previous classic vampire flicks

I'm sure I'm missing some more.

As previously mentioned Near Dark and Let The Right One In are 2 really great twists on the Vampire movie.

I will add another one out of the mainstream of vampire flicks (which everyone else has covered very well).

Thirst, it is a korean film by the same man who directed Oldboy, Sympathy for Mr Vengeance, and Sympathy for Lady Vengeance. It is not your typical vampire film, there are sme laugh out loud, truly strange scenes and some very, very creepy one.  And like his other films it also concerns revenge and how it affects both parties incolved.

My favorites have already been mentioned but here it goes-

Interview with a vampire-(started my obsession with the vampire chronicles)

underworld series-(although the last one was just a blatant ad for the next movie)

Most of my favorites have already been mentioned too, but I'll echo others' reccomendations of Let the Right One In, Interview with the Vampire, and The Horror of Dracula with Christopher Lee.

I'm also quite fond of Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary - a performance film of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's Dracula adaptation by Canadian filmmaker Guy Maddin.

All my favorite Vampire films have been mentioned already in my thread but I'd like to add Innocent Blood from 1992. I think it is a very underrated Horror comedy from the 90s.

I have not seen anyone mention what I think is one of the most orginal vampire films in years: Daybreakers. Very much worth seeing!
