Our library has Amores Perros and The Motorcycle Diaries.  I have Volver on WL.  Any other recommendations?

All previous recommendations are great. I think you should check out Volver and El Mariachi

You should watch 'El Crimen del Padre Amaro' and 'Amarte Duele', good luck.

Our library has the priest one.  Is the spelling correct on the second?  Not finding in the search.  My DH likes political thillers and wants the spanish practice.  He was not happy with Volver.  Pan's Labyrinth and Pantaleon Y Las Vistiadoras were big hits.

This one I still have fond memories of from 12 years ago called Belle Epoch ( check spelling) - Perhaps you have already seen it, but it is about a young soldier who goes AWOL about the time of the fall of dictator Franco of Spain. He winds up at the home of a man divorced from some opera singer who bears a striking resemblance to the beloved Montseratt Caballe; and who has three lovely daughters that the soldier falls madly in love with one at a time, and each one not quite working out...except....

I have a Spanish speaking film Under the Same Moon (La Misma Luna) that was pretty entertaining if you like the sensitive tear jerking movies. Tried to post on here but for some reason the site doesn't recognize it?! If anyone is interested, email me.

Besides the ones already mentioned like Pan's Labyrinth, Amores Perros, Padre Amaro Y Tu Mama Tambien, etc etc... there are other great ones out there if you can find them. You want to find and watch movies that were intended for a Spanish audience versus trying to "Americanize" it as Mexicans would say.  The ones I recommend are:

Canoa

Matando Cabos

El Apando

Time Crimes (Spanish)

Man Facing South East

El Imperio De La Fortuna

Vamonos Con Pancho Villa

De La Calle

Tizoc: Amor Indio

Chac: Rain God

Cabeza De Vaca

Los Hermanos Hierro

Macario

El Sin Nombre

Los Olvidados

El Castillo De La Pureza

Cuentos De Hadas Para Dormir Cocodrilos

Biutiful

Alamar

Some great movies have already been recommended, I'll throw in some more:

The Secret in Their Eyes (El secreto de sus ojos), a well-deserved Best Foreign-Language Film Oscar winner from Argentina

Talk to Her (Hable con ella) by Almodovar

Unfaithful Women (Mujeres infieles), a fun romp from Chile

In Bed (En la cama), in which two young Chileans get together for a one-night stand and go through the stages of an entire relationship before morning comes

Mouth to Mouth (Boca a boca), a funny, silly Spanish comedy with Javier Bardem

Ellipse (Elipsis), a lean and spare crime flic from Venezuela

Open Your Eyes (Abre los ojos), the fantastic basis for the much inferior Vanilla Sky

Miss Bullet (Miss bala), a Mexican wannabe beauty queen lands in the clutches of a vicious gang

ANYTHING by Julio Medem (although Room in Rome is in English)
