Albertina Walker

(4 out of 5 stars)

"This video truly captures the essence of a live performance by gospel music's queen. At the age of 64, this gospel powerhouse reached into her bag of traditional soul movers and pulled out music that is inspirational, emotional, and enjoyable. If you want to see a true performance by a living legend, and a real deliverance of gospel music, you must buy this."
Fine performance by a lady of gospel royalty

"OK. I had this on VHS, gave it to a family member long ago, and recently purchased it again on DVD.

I forgot what a piece de resistance of gospel this is.

It was recorded in Memphis. Dorothy Norwood makes a guest appearance. Olanda Draper and The Associates are the choir. Albertina's long-time road dog John McNeil turns in a stellar reading of I Come To The Garden.

And Albertina sings her (then) 65 year old tail off, the way that she does. Plus, there are short interviews placed between every third song or so that give you a bit of insight as to what kind of person she is, how the Caravans came together, how Shirley Caesar was still in bobby socks as a young adult, etc.

Video quality and production/filming is decent by mid-90's standards, but not outstanding ... and the transfer is a bit grainy. That's the only reason I can't give this product a 5-star rating.

But overall, it is a really wonderful video for anyone that wants a good dose of traditional gospel. Long live 'Tina!"
