Beautiful KJV Bible, Worth Experiencing!
Arcturus70 | In the Orion Spur of the Milky Way Galaxy | 01/04/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I purchased this product for my father who is seventy years old and struggles a bit with his eyesight--particularly with the print versions of regular Bibles. I thought this would be a great way for him to continue his daily devotional / Bible study comfortably and also to use the computer--which gives him self esteem as a true citizen of our modern world. :) He loves how Alexander Scourby narrates with clear, distinct, respectful speech --with no annoying sound effects or distractions. [Prior to receiving this DVD, my father listened to some simple audio files that I had found for him from Internet websites and from audio CD's which we had bought.]

When I found this product on Amazon, I knew it would be the perfect choice, the perfect gift--giving my father satisfaction from Bible study and independence with the computer (which is a Mac by the way. Since this is a DVD product, it probably works on a PC that has DVD capability, but we had no way to test that. We did try it in our regular DVD playing television, and it worked very well--with the lovely images even larger than on a computer screen!) We are impressed! This is an amazing, well-designed visual product for both young and old alike. The product is ever so easy to use, and the graphics are simply breathtaking. No doubt this DVD can be used for independent study OR even for Sunday School / Bible group study.

Once the DVD activates, one is transported into a church-like "room" facing a beautiful stain-glass window. Church bells ring setting the overall, meditative mood. The view slowly pans down to a table where a big bible opens showing a map one the inside cover and, on the first page of the "book," a DVD selection menu with large, clearly-rendered fonts: The King James Version / Old Testament / New Testament / 52 Week Bible Guide / Credits. From this menu, the user chooses which parts of the DVD to explore. My father was immediately interested in the 52 Week Bible Guide, and this was our first visit. The guide is like a built-in devotional that offers a set biblical journey for the user.

In just a few minutes of learning how the selection menus and tools worked, my father was navigating the materials easily, independently, and quite happily. While Mr. Scourby narrated, my father could read along in the big bible on screen, and occasionally, a beautiful illustration would accompany the text.

This Signature Edition KJV DVD with Alexander Scourby offers the following features:

Over 70 hours of Dolby Digital Stereo Audio
Complete narration of both the Old and New Testament
Synchronized graphics and text showing ever verse
Widescreen (16:9) and Full Frame (4:3) display
Interactive Menus that allow direct access to any book or chapter
A variety of playback modes / features--including single chapter, single book
No region coding / NTSC TV format
A thrilling bonus disc with a Q&A game, 33 dramatized Bible stories, and Holy Land Tour with musical hymn audio tracks, traditional and contemporary versions

The bonus disc proved to be an exiting supplement to the main DVD. My father and I were able to go "head to head" in a Bible trivia game that definitely challenged our knowledge and inspired further investigation into the KJV Bible--Old and New Testaments! Our first choice for the dramatized Bible stories was Jonah, and the story was given a bit like a little radio program / play, which had a different feel than Mr. Scourby's strict narration. [The dramatized stories are excellent for everyone, but I am sure that they would be preferred by children than straight Bible narration.]

Overall, we would recommend this product to anyone who wishes to explore the Bible in comfortable, meaningful ways. // As a side note: there are apparently many versions of the Bible on DVD available: standard editions and signature editions and editions for other Bible translations beyond KJV, such as the NIV and NAB versions. The following website offers video clip previews of these versions, which may give people a better look at the product's abilities: [...] Read all product descriptions on Amazon and on the website carefully before buying to ensure that you get the best product for you / your family or group."

"My mother, Margie Crews, and I are enjoying this very much. We have set aside a time each day and we are doing the 52 week reading. I love the way he pronounces each word. It is interesting and easy to follow. We use our own bible to follow along with him.

Thanks for your product

"Havent listened to all of it yet but what i have, suits me just fine so far...Not rushed,...narration has expression, ...pages turn with, not before text is read...more anon."

"This DVD is a great tool to use if you want to get familiar with scripture. You really feel part of the biblical story when Alexander Scourby is reading. As well as having the audio you have a complete visual of each page being read so that you can follow along. And the trivia section is a great way to test your biblical metal.

Perhaps more exciting graphics would help to keep interest as even the most exciting read can be straining from time to time. Also I think that each line being read could be underlined to aid in following the reader. All in all this could be a great study tool, or just something great to have playing on your tv while working around the house."
