Movie Reviews

Just wish it was longer!
M. Cervi | Hudson, MA United States | 06/04/2008
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I absolutely love this DVD, as I never got to see Johnnie Ray perform in his heyday. We are so lucky that they were able to capture this concert on film, though in B&W and a little fuzzy. Actually watching Johnnie perform some of his best songs is so much better than just listening to the CDs. I just wish it were longer, as I could have watched for hours. Thank you for making this available!"

"This DVD is probably the only way you can see what Johnnie Ray was in the fifties. His vocals are strong in this production, his stage presence high, his manner unaffected. His song selection goes from the pop tunes "Walking in the Rain" to selections from Gershwin. He is confident, at ease and instills his songs with emotion and grace.

Recommended for fans and people curious to know what his stage manner was. Bob Dylan says Johnnie Ray affected him deeply, and you can hear that in his early music. The production is quiet crisp and clear, marred only by a short, five second video flaw of transmission (the sound is not affected).

It's unlikely there would ever be another whole concert of this man's available."
