"The version of HAWK OF THE HILLS presented by TELEVISTA is the 1929 re-edit of a ten-part silent "cliffhanger." As the original ran well over two hours, this 50 minute edition only retains primary storyline elements. (Current status of the 1927 serial: "presumed lost.")
"Hawk" was popular in its day. As a promotional stunt, viewers of Chapter One received a "Movieland Puzzle" and were given one piece to it with each succeeding installment. The photoplay's main story concerns a band of Native Americans who terrorize precious metal prospectors. The daughter of a man who strikes gold is kidnapped by the Indians and a government agent comes to her rescue, but only after she undergoes several ordeals.
