REFRESHING !!!!!

"After searching around for weeks, I was lucky to find this dvd at my local Tower Records and purchased it over the weekend. As an avid Hip Hop lover and someone whose been around long enough to see how Hip Hop evolved (I'm 31), I cannot tell you how REFRESHING it was to see these videos again after all these years! I literally took a sigh of relief, because it was soooooo refreshing to see a Hip Hop video that didn't focus solely on "bumpin in da club" and half-naked women bumping their T&A in your face! 92" represented a time when Hip Hop was just pure fun and artists kept it real. Now if I were to grade this dvd, I'd have to give it a "C." The previous commentators are correct- videos are not full screen, but rather 2/3 in size and more importantly, they are not shown in it's entirety- you're only going to see about 75% of each video which cuts off and goes right into the next. Pressing zoom with your dvd remote will fix the size, but I'm disappointed that the videos were shortened. I think the idea of this dvd was to just give us a "taste" of what Hip Hop was like in 92". And while I'm thankful for it, I would still like to see entire videos. The good thing is that for those of us who were teens and young adults in 92", it will definately bring back some good memories of the good ole days when Hip Hop was "off the hook" and we could actually look forward to spending Saturday afternoon on the couch watching Rap City or Yo! MTV Raps. I literally cried when I saw Das EFX, A Tribe Called Quest and Black Sheep- it made me reminisce about being 18 again :). My advice to Hip Hop lovers: BUY IT! It's good to have in your collection. It may not be the best compilation, but ANY memories of old-school Hip Hop beats what we have out today! And the $18.00 isn't going to set you back a whole lot :). Sit back and enjoy the memories and let's just pray that another more thorough compilation is in the works."
Good for the collection

"I picked up Time Capsule while browsing in FYE. I was so happy to see some of my favorite artist on DVD. It took me back to those days when the music was still fun. 12 years. Wow! If you are complaining about the quality now, what are you going to say when they come out with the best of 1979? Get over the quality issue and just be happy somebody care enough to preserve this precious and STILL overlooked artform we call Hip Hop. The live performances are hot. I'm sure they will get better as they go along. Time Capsule is a Good start. BUY it!"

"This product was produced to reflect it's title, "Hip Hop Time Capsule." Which implies a collection of partial memories. I think its great to have any hip hop clips in my collection because they are so rare. It's great to see live footage. Its like I was there!. Especially the Das EFX show. WOW! If YOU LOVE Hip Hop this is a good addition to your collection. I hope they get better with future product like make the videos full screen. But I think its great to has some Hip Hop memories on tape. This is for the real Hip Hop heads."
1 Star for the nice try - but that's about it!

"Being two true oldschool hip hop heads, we couldn't await to see what's on this DVD - BUT WHAT A DISAPPOINTMENT!!! Check the other reviews: poor quality of sound and size (size DOES matter!!!) plus the videos are shortened to only about 2 mins. each. Luckily we have a good selection of our very own video tapes from the good ol' days featuring the best that Yo!MTV Raps had to offer plus all the good stuff that was on VH1 SOUL last year, and thanks to modern technology it's on DVD too! So we got the proof that it could have been done way better. If this is the closest that YOU can get to oldschool videos - sorry for you! It might be better than nothing. But maybe you're better off checking the net for better sources... ;-)
