Movie Reviews

Excellent for every ASL enthusiasts - a must have when it co
Everyday ASL Productions, Ltd. | 07/11/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This DVD is excellent for every ASL enthusiast. You will get to view a bit over 50 idioms and phrases in American Sign Language as well as English translations. First, you will see the idiom and/or phrase in normal and slow speeds to recognize the expression in ASL and then see that very same idiom / phrase in full sentences taught by a pair of Deaf ASL professionals.

These idioms and phrases don't normally appear in any ASL dictionaries and/or anywhere in bookstores or online; which makes this DVD and the rest of the 5-DVD collection a valuable asset towards down-to-earth yet vital daily ASL conversations.

There are many surprises and amazing additions that turn sentence examples into an amazing experience to learn from. After studying the DVD, a viewer is certainly able to express these idioms and phrases independently and boost communication skills as well as recognizing these idioms / phrases used by other ASL users.

We recommend this to ASL students, ASL teachers, ASL interpreters, Sign Language interpreters, parents, families, friends, young people, Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing individuals and just about anyone studying American Sign Language."

"As a student, it's really frustrating to be limited in my ASL communication. I don't have that kind of patience. So, deaf idioms really do help expand my vocabulary and build my cofidence when communicating with other deaf people. To be fluent in ASL, it is important to understand these idioms. They are really used quite often. Now that I am learning these idioms, I have recognized alot of them so far used by deaf individuals and interpreters too. I'm really excited, because it gives me an advantage in that my limited communication is increasing rapidly. I have even noticed my instructors doing some of these signs."

"The quality on this dvd isn't that great. Apparently it was shot with a digital camera but recorded on analog tape. Or something similar. That being said, it's a good DVD. The information and signing is clearly presented and the "actors" are actually pretty funny. You can tell they are enjoying themselves and that makes it fun to watch."
