Movie Reviews

Very highly recommended viewing for ballet enthusiasts

(5 out of 5 stars)

"The plays of Shakespeare have always been a rich source of inspiration in the world of ballet. Now three strikingly costumed and choreographed productions have been compiled in a single outstanding DVD from V.I.E.W. Video. "Kirov Stars: Shakespeare Dance Trilogy" showcases the impressive talent of Kirov Ballet troupe in three of Shakespeare's best know dramas. the productions of 'Romeo and Juliet' and 'Hamlet' are performed to the music of Tchaikovsky. 'The Moor's Pavane' is drawn from Othello and is performed to the music of Henry Purcell. In all three productions, the music is expertly performed by the State Academic Orchestra of the USSR. The set designs are superb, the talent is memorable, and the production values of flawless. Enhanced for viewers with bonus features that include Tchaikovsky's biography, and a total running time of seventy minutes, "Kirov Stars: Shakespeare Dance Trilogy" is very highly recommended viewing for ballet enthusiasts and an enduring popular addition to community library DVD collections.
