Movie Reviews

Another great Jeff Wincott film
02/01/2000
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This was a great action film with top-notch performances by the multi-talented Jeff Wincott (sporting an awesome pair of snakeskin boots!) and a quality supporting cast. The stunts (especially the opening ones in the hotel and the bank) were teriffic. For being a straight-to-video film, I found the action and the storyline to be of better quality than a lot of bigger-named films in the theaters. I've rented this one twice and will probably rent it again. Wincott's films are almost always guaranteed to be worth watching. He's way too under-rated for his acting and martial arts talents. I look forward to seeing more from him."
Great Action Movie!

"The first time I seen this movie was on HBO. It had alot of action in it and Jeff Wincott did an awesome job acting. I Immediately ordered this movie for dvd collection. It remains one of my favorites"
One of the best b-action movies i have ever seen

"Compared to most of the Hollywood movies out there, this film probably wouldn't compare but in the world of B action movies, this is a gem. Last Man Standing seems to have everything going for it - a wonderful lead actor, superb action, a great story, good characters, and even some exciting camera work.

The only reason I bought the dvd was Jeff Wincott. He is truly a great actor, who is highly underrated and a great martial artist too. I have yet to see a film of his that does not capture my attention throughout. In Last Man Standing, Jeff gives another great performance, and probably one of his best. He has a few good punching and kicking scenes, but he also does some good stunt work in some outstanding action scenes.

Everything else about this film was a bonus for me, and what a bonus it was. I had no idea upon purchasing, that this was a Joseph Mehri/Richard Pepin production. For those who do not know who they are, these guys probably have put out the better half of B martial arts/action films thats out there. Some of their films include Deadly Bet (also starring Wincott), Rage, To Be The Best and Final Impact. They also wrote the story and did the directing for this film, which I thought was well done - especially for the action sequences.

The story was wonderful too. Jeff Wincott is a cop named Kurt, who begins to realize that part of the L.A. force is dirty, and involved with a group of guys led by a man who goes by Underwood (Jonathan Fuller). Eventually, both Underwood's force and the police force are trying to take the other out, and Kurt is caught in the middle. Everyone wants him dead, and he wants these guys busted as well. There is alot of suspense, and when I am afraid the best has ended, the story keeps on and usually gets better.

The action is superb. The only thing lacking could be martial arts fighting. There is little in the film, and its a shame cause Wincott is quite athletic, but it actually did not bother me because there is so much story and other types of action that made this movie very loveable. The best action is easily the multiple car chase scenes. Mid-way through the mvoie is easily the best car chase scene I have seen in a B-movie, and so good it can compare to any chase I have ever seen. It involves Wincott on a motorcycle, chasing Underwood and some of his people in a stolen armored truck, leaving a bank robbery. The scene must go on for 10 minutes as dozens of cars flip and explode, and the camera work follows it nicely. Kurt eventually jumps into the truck and fights Underwood in the back before he's knocked out and holding onto chains, swinging all over the highway for his life. Its intense and must-see. The second chase involves 2 corvettes, which is cool in itself.

This is definely a rare gem in the world of B movies. Easily one of Wincott's best films and Mehri/Pepin's best made work so far. If all you want is martial arts action, you won't get that, but if you crave everything else in a great action movie, here it is. Buy this now!"
