Movie Reviews

VADER = 5 STARS! but the QUALITY of this DVD is 1 STAR! :-(
The Truth Hurts | USA | 11/07/2004
(1 out of 5 stars)

"VADER are death metal GODS! you know how everytime your favorite band puts out a new CD and you cringe because they 'experimented' just a little too much? well, not with VADER! they will deliver the goods each and every time! they will never let you down! (well, until the 2004 release without Doc... the new drummer sux! it's still great DM, but the drumming totally lacks! get well soon Doc!) anyway, so, VADER rules, but this DVD is horrible quality! it says that it is a "Dual Layer" disc, and it IS, but the bit-rate is so poor, when i watch it on my widescreen LCD monitor, it looks like a VCD! i've actually seen better looking VCDs than this! talk about a 'BLOCKY PICTURE' ~ urgh! and then there is a lot of 'thrashing' while the strobe-lights go wild... and it's just a big mess! the DVD is only 6.24GB, so they could have upped the bit-rate more which would have added only about 1.5GB more. (still plenty of room) whoever encoded this should never work another day in their life! the picture quality totally ruins this GREAT show! the other "extra" shows look a LITTLE worse than the main gig, but the interviews look 100% better than everything! COME ON METAL MIND! WE WANT THE CONCERT IN MINT QUALITY! WHO CARES ABOUT THE INTERVIEWS QUALITY?! on the plus side (see, it's not all bad) you get a total of 3 Vader gigs, all EXCELLENT sound quality... no bootleg sound like most of Metal Minds other "extra shows" they put on other bands' DVDs. you have a choice of 5.1 or 2.0 and even though i used headphones when watching this, the 5.1 sounds better for sure. you also get the usual extras like: bio, discog., photo gallery, weblinks, logo, desktop pictures, etc. if you are a Vader fan, GET IT! you want it... just play it on an old crappy TV so you can't see the horrible horrible horrible picture quality."
Even still....It's VADER!

"Well, since the last reviewer loves VADER, but hates the DVD quality, I had to put in a review to offset the low "star" rating. When I watched the DVD on my set, I did not experience the "horrible VCD-like" quality, and thought it was fine. This DVD gives you 3 different shows to watch and enjoy, and any real VADER fan should definitely own this! You even get to see Doc perform one more time which is worth it (he was great and is missed).

I do prefer this DVD to "More Vision..." that is really of a lesser quality. We'll soon see how the upcoming "And Blood Was Shed In Warsaw" DVD compares, but I still recommend this DVD to any VADER fan!"
