Movie Reviews

Pavarotti goes Pop (for a noble reason)
arturo_gtz | 03/21/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Our world is a difficult place to live, out there are a lot of countries with endless wars and endless hungied kids. After 1992, Lucciano Pavarotti conceived a noble idea: "What if many artist around the world would reunited to make a great event and all the earnings of the events goes directly to those people that need help?","What is we make this event every year with diferent artists and singers?" , that's how "Pavarotti & Friends" became a reality. No, this is not an opera compilation from Pavarotti, in this collection you can enjoy artists like U2, Simon Le Bon (Duran Duran), Michael Bolton, Dolores O'Riordan (Cranberries), Ricky Martin, Brian Adams, and a long etcetera making their best, and bringing their greatest hits; also, you can enjoy ensembles like Simon Le Bon and Lucciano Pavarotti singing together "Ordinary World", or Dolores O'Riordan and Simon singing together "Linger", or what do you think about Pavarotti, Bryan Adams and Andrea Boccelli singing "All for love"?, if that something that doesn't attract your attention, i don't know any other thing that will do it.And last, but far from least, some of the expense that you make in these great dvd's is going to help a lot of people that desperatelly need help."
Five Stars, No Less

"Luciano Pavorotti and his friends deserve FIVE stars, no less. I have tremendous respect for Mr. Pavarotti for blending in his talent for classical music with our contemporary artists such as Bono, Sting, Ronald Keating, Michael Bolton, and so many others. He is both noble and humble. You should hear his duet with Tracy Chapman. His distinctive voice is as unshakable in Nessum Dorma as in "There Must Be An Angel" with the Eurythmics. It's beautiful when an artist is confident enough to have a breakthrough when he ventures into another artist's music especially when it's so much different from his. It is both fun and enlightening to watch. Now, in fairness to Dolores O'Riordan of the Cranberries for being criticized in one of the reviews... one should realize that not all artists underwent formal training to be opera singers. It doesn't take an expert to appreciate GOOD music. For the entire collection to be rated one star is unfair just because of one's judgment on the poor rendition of "Panis angelicus". So what... when she made up for it in "Linger". There were far more exceptional performances of other musicians that shouldn't be overlooked. One should remember the effort Pavarotti put into what probably is his greatest achievement of a lifetime. Furthermore, since the whole collection was for a very worthy cause, isn't it enough that all those who participated be given some credit, too?"
Entertaining

"The Pavarotti & Friends Collection are very entertaining. The guest appearances are varied and often fun, many singing duets with Luciano Pavarotti. I especially like the kids choir from Tibet and Cambodja, heartwarming.
Some Italian artists are unknown to us. But there are also very famous names like Sting, George Michael and many others.
I find most concerts on DVD quite boring, but not these concerts. I recommend them to everyone."
Worth the money ten times over.....

"This collection is worth the money ten times over....I still get the tingles when I hear Pavarotti and Dolores O'Riordan ("The Cranberries" lead singer) sing Schubert's Ave Maria...their voices are so in sync...and Dolores voice is so transcendent..
The collection is worth the money for this alone...buy it!...It will give you many enjoyable hours....it has me."
