Movie Reviews

Very Good DVD!!!!!
Richard D. Cappetto | Moodus, CT United States | 11/16/2004
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was all set to give this DVD a great review but then I watched it LOL. Its not terrible; but there are some problems. One mark Farner, who is one of rock n roll's greatest singers, was not in great voice on this day, he sounded like he had some voice strain (I am sure from a heavy turning schedule) and this company passport Video should have had Mark do some overdubs. Another problem is the Vocals are very loud in the mix and that causes the songs to sound not as hard edged as they should. And lastly there are two songs mislabeled on the DVD. Song number 6 is Not He sent me you it is a medley of Paranoid, Sin's a Good man's Brother and Mr. Limousine Driver; and song number 7 is not Call yourself a Man it is Comfort me.

On the Good side this is the first full length DVD of mostly GFR songs anywhere; and it deserves 4 STARS JUST FOR THAT REASON ALONE. The picture looks fantastic, the backdrop is cool with the big screen and the Psychedelic colors. Judgment Day Blues one of Mark's Christian songs absolutely rocks, mark rips it up with some tasty and nasty blues riffs. there IS a nice version of Comfort Me on hear mislabeled as I said and it is one of my favorite GFR songs ever. And I'm Your Captain, one of Rock N roll's GREAT songs is done well.

Mark's band is adequate, But Mel's pounding Bass (or bong rattling Bass) and Don's drums and raspy vocals are missed. Mark's bass player cannot sing, his voice to me is like fingernails on a chalk board. Well, over exaggeration he is not that bad, and having said all that, this is still a must have DVD for any and all GFR fans.

Lets hope with the death of Terry Knight that the Guys will get together and realize we are all mortal and lets get the GFR classic stuff out there on DVD, such as the Shea stadium show. Can I get an Amen?"
Priceless dvd for a Mark Farner fan!

"To finally be able to see Mark Farner in concert on DVD is priceless to me. Yes, there are some equipment glitches and Mark's voice drops out several times apparently from a cold or sinus infection but I couldn't care less about those few glitches. Farner is a ball of energy on stage, he struts and poses and makes that guitar sing as he has always done.

I really liked his rendition of I'm Your Captain/Closer to Home....just sends shivers up my spine listening to Mark's voice. As you watch him on stage you can see he is really feeling the music he's playing.

For a Mark Farner or Grand Funk fan I'd rate this dvd as a must have, especially since there's not really any other video out there."

"Yes!...MARK FARNER is definitely one of the "Rock-n-Roll Greats"! You will WAY~More~Than~LIKELY...AGREE from watching this video...A TRUE Professional. Although, recovering from a severe respiratory infection...The show MUST GO ON... So, while singing his heart out...That fantastic, SOULFULL VOICE cuts in and out on a couple of songs...understandably and, TOTALLY FORGIVEABLE...to listen to even if this was released by the video taping company to re-gather some funds!(JMHO) And,those graphics that "fly" in with the tune titles are COOL but, wrong a couple of times...no big deal...we know better right?

Now, when I experienced this production...On an plane...headphones plugged IN to a portable DVD player...I watched, listened, danced around(in the seat),tapped/stomped both feet, SMILED...bobbed my head, and said; "Your Welcome" everytime Mark said;"Thank You"! It was then, that the guy across the aisle peeked at my screen to see what I was SO excited about...I was experiencing TURBULENCE in my seat while the rest of the plane remained steady! MoRaL~oF~tHe~StOrY: This DVD is STILL FUN TO WATCH!

To quote a friend who said;"ANY Mark is GOOD Mark" (Thanks Lee) I MUST AGREE...We have So few choices of video out there...But, In my HUMBLE opinion...A ROCK SOLID performance that I CAN ATTEST TO(because I was there)has been recorded in Youngstown, Ohio...When this DVD comes out...Don't hesitate to buy IT because of what you see on this one...It'll be Vocal "Harmony Heaven"...as N'rG ROCKS behind Mark...STILL, I gotta admire the man for being such a trooper and, HANGING RIGHT IN THERE DURING THIS PERFORMANCE! Looks to me like he pulled it off anyway...MiCHiGaNaSsKiCkInRoCkInRoLL...AND,much more to come!

LIVE NRG

"This DVD was shot in HD and certainly shows it well. What the live performances now days shows is both the great and now so great things that put the performances under a microscope. Sometimes actually being at the concert live is better than watching the samething on video and viceversa. Most people who buy this are Marks fans and GFR fans. This is their first chance to get an actual video of Grand Funk and therefore will not be disappointed for $13.99. Buy a couple extras at these prices for your friends & hopefully maybe someone will make enough off it to hurry up and put out Marks performance at Bruce Willis's high school reunion in Aug.of 2003. I can't wait for that one. LONG LIVE MARK FARNER AND THE NRG BAND."
