I've seen a lot of 'Aliens' rip-offs through the years, but Shocking Dark is something beyond the normal definition. It is essentially the same script, but performed poorly with actors that stumble over lines, while the director apparently has no desire for a re-shoot. Lines of dialogue, scenes, and characterizations are exactly the same as Aliens, so much so as it was really annoying and obviously predictable. About 2/3 of the way through, the "Bishop / Burke" character is revealed as an android, and then the movie shifts to ripping off Terminator. Only the smallest amount of original thinking occurs at the very end, but certainly not worth sitting through this movie. It is possible that a viewer who has not seen Aliens might find this movie tolerable, but why bother when you can watch Aliens instead? The ONLY scene that might get a chuckle is when the dummy lost its head halfway down the shaft during the fall shot - then, when cutting to the bottom of the shaft, the Actor's "head" is restored. But I'm seriously reaching here - there isn't even anything good to make fun of. I just kept watching each scene and remembering how much cooler it was when they did it in Aliens . . .
