I ordered this hoping it was the History Channel program featuring archaeologist Bob Brier, but it wasn't. The production quality of this DVD is very good. However, Mr. Larson makes some extremely off the wall assertions throughout the DVD which are tangential to the topic, and make absolutely no sense! One particularly screamingly-awful thing he says is that the Magi might have been descendants of the Jews in captivity in the east. His reason for thinking this is because they come to Israel to worship the king, and who would worship a Jewish king if not Jews? This is the most absurd thing I have ever heard. Everyone knows Jews *refused* to worship earthly kings, and this was a source of great bitterness under the Roman occupation, because they also refused to worship Caesar. *Pagans* worshipped kings. Jews NEVER have! I don't know what Mr. Larson's credentials are, but even the most elementary Sunday school class student knows that the Jews never worshipped human beings as gods at any time in recorded history! My eyeballs hurt from rolling so much...

Good reasoning well presented

"Mr Larson makes a good case for identifying the Star of Bethlehem with Jupiter, making significant conjunctions with Regulus and Venus. There's no glaring gaps in the logic that I can see. I searched the web for criticisms, and the only ones I found were either people dismissing the whole idea that the Star of Bethlehem was historical or people who preferred their own theory to his."
