Quite the twist and CGI and makeup/costumes which really added to a more modern Star Trek plotline.

Couldn't stop watching this. Give it a chance and it may well become your new favorite show. The old production team from the previous series is long gone. New producers and writers. Expect something different. The writers have taken some big risks, just like many outlandish episodes in TOS. Plenty of nods to continuity and history. Hands down, this is some of the most awesome Trek I've seen.

The opening 2 episodes are rather dark and I guess, looking back on it, it was appropriate as it's the beginning of the Klingon/Federation war. The Klingons seem to speak more simply when using their native language, and then when we run into some speaking English it changes. Their design seems inspired by H.R. Giger. Noticed in one of the episodes that Ensign Kirk was paged in the hallway comms. Also looks like they've got an actor picked out to play Spock in the second season. There's Spock's sister. Pike even shows up. They even brought back the Agony Booths! And you are really going to enjoy the newest incarnation of Harry Mudd.

Read an article a couple weeks ago which basically stated that CBS wants to add enough series, limited runnning series, even animated Star Trek to their All Access service so that a brand new Trek show will be airing every week of the year. We've got a Picard series on the radar already.
