Movie Reviews

Awful
05/07/2003
(2 out of 5 stars)

"I tortured myself by watching this movie. It was horrible, horrible. The only reason for watching it was former Playmate Amber Smith. She gets top billing for playing a sex kitten starlet making a series of "Vanessa Rio" secret agent movies. The movie-within-a-movie scenes are hilarious if only to see how hard they're trying to parody B-movies. The dialogue is horrendous.
The movie tried hard to borrow plot from the successful '80s flick Body Double, including having the male lead witness a murder while spying on a beautiful naked neighbor through a telescope. The guy with a telescope in this case is the director of the Venessa Rio movies, who's staying at a friend's apartment after his wife kicks him out after *she* has been caught screwing around.
He rushes over to the murder scene but he's too late. He discovers his sexy and now dead neighbor is in fact his starlet Vanessa Rio (like he didn't recognize those breasts after hours of editing!) Obviously, he's set up to take the fall.
Starstruck must have been shot on such a low budget. It's full of plot holes and horrible acting. There are some nice babes baring their bodies, but that's about it. You kind of expect your B-movies to be less than Oscar-worthy, but this takes the cake for the kind of movie NOT to make.
Two Stars for Amber Smith's presence. The rest of the cast is forgettable and so is the movie."
