Movie Reviews

A Good Intense Film
Leonard | Austin, Texas | 10/22/2003
(4 out of 5 stars)

"I was lucky enough to see an early cut of this film a year ago and I was impressed. I could only imagine how much better it would be once the music was added and the final trimming was complete. I was not disappointed.
Sucker Punch is a dark and gritty film in the vein of Scorsese and the Hughes Brothers. It's violent and rough with a lot of intensity, but it's also funny and fresh.
Sucker Punch is an entertaining new take on a classic theme and Paris Campbell is outstanding as the anti-hero who you cannot help but feel for and Christina Caparoula is very strong and believable as the hooker with a heart of lead.
But Lev Gorens steals the film as the hilarious psychopath hit man. The scene where his "secret" is discovered is worth the price of the film in itself.
This is not a nice film. It's not sweet and happy. It shows a reality that most Americans are lucky enough to never have to experience but it's presented in a creative and sometimes humorous manner.
The Crook brothers are proving to be a force to be reckoned with and I wish them luck.
I recommend this film to all gangster movie fans."

"There are a lot of great lines in this film. I like when the evangelist couple tell the anti-hero in the hospital, after they found him on the street mostly dead, "We thought you were a bag of trash!". Also, when Mike is explaining to the female evangelist about his epiphany, she tells him, "But Mike, I don't think Jesus was black!" This is some subtle good stuff. The "whore" role of Mike's girlfriend was great. Mike whose real name if Paris something does what seems to me like a great, really great acting job, as do others in the film. The writing, concept and performances are great. The people who made and contributed to this film, incluing the star Mike (Paris), will continue to make their mark in the future. Watch this film, if you can handle it. It is not for the faint-hearted."
Really twisted film

"wasn't expecting alot when I saw this film, but talk about Mouth dropping? a Pimp that gets turned out?? also finding the Good Book while all the crazyiness is going down. this is a Underground film.like elements of Mean Streets meet Pulp Fiction. wasn't expecting some of the stuff that went down.it's worth peeping out,but it ain't gonna be the way you think it is all the way through.very twisted film."
