Amazing score and performance
Pete C. | Raleigh, NC USA | 08/12/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This disc is stunning. Musically it is a jazz masterpiece. I had my reservations on this one. After purchasing and watching, it is money well, well spent. You see each member of this 7 piece ensemble reading off charts off this incredible Marsalis score. When it comes time for the solo's, the eyes are closed the charts are gone and they play with such amazing improvisation, it is astounding.

What is a letdown though is when they pan the audience. Most of the folks in the front seemed like they would rather be somewhere else. The others in the back are the ones that hoot and holler. I guess we can figure out who are the "season ticket-holders" and who are the fans on this one. Me myself, I would give anything to breathe in this live performance. I would definitely be out of camera view, I guess.

All in all, if you want to witness a very, very tight band performing a score that really makes Marsalis stand out...Then this is definitely for y'all. This was a welcome treat to witness. The filming is well done too. They focus in on who is leading at all times. BRILLIANTLY DONE JAZZ PERFORMANCE."
