Movie Reviews

Unique Combination of Masters
Samuel Delgado | Duluth, GA USA | 12/17/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I was introduced to this live performance while watching a local public television station. So enjoyable was the experience that I have now added this DVD to my Amazon.com cart, along with other CD's from these two masters.

The DVD is the way to go, rather than simply opt for the CD. This is as much a visually engaging extravaganza as it is a audible experience. "Blanco y Negro" (white and black) literally transcends from title to the screen. I felt as if I were part of the audience. Wonderful cinematography to boot!

So unique is this collaboration that I couldn't quite place myself within a particular era of music or territorial borders. However, I easily managed to access both my Cuban and Spanish roots at a deeper layer than ever before experienced.

I think that little else should be added. The experience will speak for itself."
Excellent! Must have

"Unfortunately I don't have too much time to write reviews but I like this one so much that I had to write a few lines.

This is an excellent DVD. The image quality is superb
and so is the sound. This is a very intimist acoustic concert
which should please any listener. I highly recommend"
Better than just listen the CD...

"I also have the CD on this album, and if the CD is very good, the DVD is excellent !!. Not only you have a chance to listen a unique combination of jazz and flamenco ( never done before) but you have the chance to see them performing. As I wrote in my CD review, I hope these two artist make another album."
Goes together like rice and beans

"If you have heard the excellent CD "Lagrimas Negras" by these two artists than you must have this DVD. The performance is sublime. The cinematography is in black and white to create a setting as though from a different time period. You would think you are watching some old time movie, especially when you see the old veteran Bebo Valdez. Diego Cigala is uncanny in his performance as he demonstated that music is indeed the universal language. Incorporating flamenco vocals with Latin jazz piano does not seem to be a likely pairing but nothing could be further from the truth. Needless to say Bebo Valdez is a master as he lets his fingers glide and slide on the ivory keys , sometimnes at a furious pace, at other times smooth and delicate, for a raucous and at times sensuous ambience. All of the songs are perfect in their presentaion. The accompanying musicians each play thoughfully, never interfering with the stars interaction but rather encouraging their interaction. It is trully a thing of beauty to watch these musicians ,from distant lands and cultures , fuse the music together for what can only be labeled as flamenco Latin jazz. This is one of th better muisc DVD's I have seen of late and would encourage anyone who likes either of these two giants in their own fields to witness this musical marriage. Recommended for music lovers of world music sin fronteras(without borders)."
