Monsters of darkness

(3 out of 5 stars)

"MILL CREEK's MASTERS OF DARKNESS 100 MOVIE PACK is comprised entirely of material previously released by this manufacturer. The 20 selections on their ALFRED HITCHCOCK - THE LEGEND BEGINS are here (including several silent photoplays), there's 74 movies from the HORROR 250 MOVIE PACK, plus a half-dozen others ("Count Dracula and His Vampire Bride," "The Demon," "The Ghost," "Horror Express," "Legacy of Blood," "Long Hair of Death," "Silent Night, Bloody Night," Werewolf vs. Vampire Women") that can be found on any of several MCE sets. Counting the two "Alfred Hitchcock Presents" TV show episodes, that makes a grand total of 102 titles.

MILL CREEK value-priced collections offer generally good audio and video transfers of public domain material. Their BORIS KARLOFF - MASTER OF DARKNESS contains all 5 of Karloff's Mr. Wong movies, 3 episodes of the 1950s anthology TV show "The Veil," plus 4 silent and 8 sound films, all in a space-saving package.

Parenthetical numbers preceding titles are 1 to 10 viewer poll ratings found at a film research website.
