Even if you haven't seen the original film, this re-make is an extremely predictable revenge movie. Co-written by the author of the 1972 film, the revision bears about 75% similarity to the original, but sadly misses over half of the message. The father-son component is there, but the companionship component is glossed over and ignored, as is the depression and loneliness of being a hitman. While the action involves some good choreography and interesting use of technology, simple concepts like hiding one's face from cameras or bystanders are apparently not part of the Mechanic's itinerary - which in digital age of 2011 would be a recipe for becoming the most public figure on the FBI's list. Making it seem too easy takes away from the concept of being a "mechanic" and turns him into a "gun bunny" instead. All the setup in the beginning about being precise and using misdirection to hide the source of the 'hit' goes out the window, as the film descends into typical shoot 'em up fare, squandering the opportunity for a better movie.

A nice update to 1972's Mechanic staring Charles Bronson.
