This exploitation movie is notable for the launching of three careers (Snipes, Ice T, and Chris Rock), while Judd Nelson is completely unconvincing in his attempt to escape his Brat Pack past. Steeped deeply in the fashions and jargon of the time, the street name 'Gee Money' is as amusing as it is inappropriate. I recall that the moniker was used in the late 80s as a generic term that could be applied to literally anyone (long before this movie premiered) - so I'm not sure if the writer simply wasn't aware of that fact, or assumed audiences wouldn't know the difference? Certainly the film was among the first to showcase crack, and the direct homage to Pacino's Scarface was no accident. For all its simplistic plot, this film hit all the bases with "popular topics" of the early 90s and was considered cutting edge for its time, so we must forgive the fact that it doesn't age well in comparison to its contemporaries. Fans of the genre should check the box with seeing this, but feel free to skip if gangster and drug exploitation movies are not your thing.
