This mini-series had a strong start, but then it delved into the past of Shaka and I lost interest in that section of the story after the first episode of it. I did enjoy Henry Cele's portrayal of the African tribal king Shaka as an adult. I just couldn't get myself into the long middle section that took place earlier in time. I do know that I would like the series more if it didn't take that turn into the past so awkwardly and it also caught me off-guard because I wasn't expecting such a change, especially for that change to take place over several episodes. I also think that those episodes story-wise are not very strong and the performances (especially of Shaka's father) didn't wow me. I do want to learn more about Shaka and his rule, but I don't think I will finish the series to learn more about it since there are better options.
