Her songs are "The Gospel of Life," which is what good blues music should be. Yes her voice is a powerful gospel style instrument, but she is still able to deliver each song with the various emotions behind the lyrics (which you can actually understand), be they sadness, happiness, longing for love, etc. She is truly a unique talent and I hope we keep hearing from Shemekia with collections like this one. She has come a long way from her first album where she merely belted out the songs. I hope she continues to grow, expand and entertain us for a long, long time."
