Movie Reviews

Oldie but a Goodie
Awakening Sleepwalker | Indiana, USA | 02/10/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Very well crafted black and white classic. Stellar performances, especially by Holden, with a surprise ending. They don't call them classics for nothing! -and they don't make movies like they used to!"
Best POW Movie ...EVER
Carlos A. Melendez | San Juan, PR Puerto Rico | 02/15/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Is there any genre of movie that Billy Wilder cannot direct awesomely? Best Comedy: Some Like it Hot, Best Romance: Sabrina, Best Film Noir: Double Indemnity, Best Satire: The Apartment, Best Dark Humor(sticking it to Hollywood): Sunset Boulevard.
And Best POW movie:Stalag 17. It has everything you want in a movie of this type. Comedy, drama, confrontations galore, and a mystery to boot.
Synopsis: A bunch of POW's are trying to escape from the camp they are in, but they keep getting caught or worse. So how the hell is it that they always get caught? "Well gentlemen there's a traitor in our midst" and you have a virtual collection of POW characters to choose from, now they seem familiar after all the war movies you've watched but all those POW movies are just borrowing from this one.
So sit back, and enjoy."
It is truly one of the best films ever made by William Holde
Anne H. Peterson | Cordova TN USA | 04/16/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"William Holden beat out a list of very powerful actors in order to bring home the Oscar for Best Actor against the likes of Burton, Heston. He makes his character one of the most aloof characters seem actually redeemable in the end. He shows us just what it is like for him to take on this role. He took it on and hit it right out of the ball park. There will never ever be another William Holden or a role like the one he plays in this film. This is one of the best classics and it shows why he walked away with the Oscar for his role as the self-centered Sgt trapped in a POW camp along with a German spy who is played to perfection by the late Peter Graves. Holden steals this movie and the other actors in the movie are just there to play off of Holden's very powerful performance. This is a must see and everyone who has not seen it should see it. This is the film that made Holden such a box office draw and he deserved it."

"I LIKED IT BETTER THAN "THE BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER KWAI".

IT WAS NOT AS LONG AND DID KEEP YOU GUESSING."
