A bit of a bomb for a movie with lots of a-listers, Diehard's Director and having potential but never got there!

One could say things like the Lord of the Rings is "fantasy" and too hard to believe to be enjoyable. Well then there's the Thomas Crown Affair, where credibility is stretched even beyond that. I'm not sure why the film went to such lengths to show complicated schemes to steal things and misdirect the police, only to throw all that out the window and basically make Crown "magical" in his abilities by the climax of the film. I'll admit that I went into this movie thinking it would be a sort of James Bond kind of thing, but the emphasis was mostly on the "affair" - that's really the majority of the movie.
I happen to like Lord of the Rings, but this version of Thomas Crown was tarnished by not-so-funny jokes and a cliched romance that was about as genuine as an oil painting that can resist a smoke bomb and direct showers of water.

This was a really good movie. The acting in it was good. Did not think I would like it but I did.

Decent blu ray transfer decent but the disc skips and absolu

(2 out of 5 stars)

"This is a good movie and the blu ray transfer of it is pretty good but what I find unacceptable is that while the majority of the movie plays fine, there are a few spots in the beginning where the video gets sort of choppy and it almost looks like you are watching the movie in a very fast stop motion form. This can be seen in the beginning of the movie when Pierce is getting out of his limo and walking into the art gallery. It even continues this way until he sits down at his haystacks painting. It picks up again a minute later in the scene where the security guards are going over the delivery to the museum. After this scene the video jutter seems to stop for the rest of the movie. I have watched a lot of blu ray movies and this is the first blu ray movie where I have experienced this video jutter. The transfer of a movie to blu ray does not have to be perfect for me to want to own it but the fact that this blu ray suffers from the problems with the video I have described makes me want to throw this disc in the garbage. I also want to point out that first I bought this blu ray from Amazon and then I rented it from Netflix and both discs had the same problems in the same places in the movie should it is very unlikely that there is some hardware error with my blu ray player. I think "A.Dent", who wrote the "most helpful critical review" on this site summed up this blu rays problems best and I really just wanted to back this person up on their claims. Movie studios should not release poor quality blu ray movies and then have consumers waste money on these blu ray movies just to make a quick buck. They should get blu ray transfers right the first time or not release them at all. Thanks for nothing MGM, maybe in the future you will release a second blu ray transfer of The Thomas Crown Affair that is of good quality and maybe even throw in a few extras in that version. In sum, don't buy this disc; wait for a better version to come out."
