I recently saw Cinema Paradiso with the added 50 minutes and Amelie - which I loved but I didn't like Malena as much even though it is a pretty good film.  I like the Star Maker also.

Some more good ones I've seen somewhat recently:

Battle of Algiers (Pontecorvo)
The Lady Vanishes (Hitchcock)
Paprika (Kon)
Linda Linda Linda (Yamashita)
Rabbit-Proof Fence (Noyce)
Get Carter (Hodges)
Ju Dou (Zhang)

Also hoping to catch Tell No One (French thriller) and Ashes of Time Redux (a re-edited version of the 1994 film) in the theaters soon...

A couple that haven't been mentioned yet:  The Lives of Others and Goodbye Lenin are both quite good, both German.

I also love Swimming Pool (French) and have a copy- PM me if interested.

Vanessa,

I watched "The Seventh Seal" about 10 years back and really had trouble with it. Just couldn't get into it. I'm thinking Bergman is really an "acquired taste" that I don't yet have an appetite for.

:-)

I'll have to give it another shot one of these days.

Love the foreign films as well, can't wait to check out some of the ones mentioned here that I haven't seen yet. Some of my faves are:

1.Amelie

2.House of Fools

3.Cinema Paradiso

4.Oldboy

5.Malena

6.Sympathy for Mr. Vengence

7.The Five Obstructions

8.Chungking Express

9.3 Extremes

10. Pan's Labyrinth

and if you haven't seen the fairly new 'Let the Right One In', then do, it's very nicely done as well for a vampire film, which I'm generally not too fond of.

Foreign & Classic Film lovers - check out this link. It's been a long, long time since I've seen these Criterions at this price. Also, if you have a Blu-ray player check out the price on some Blu-ray Criterions...unbelievable!

50% off Criterion Collection DVDs and Blu-Ray at Barnes & Noble

Ends August 2 or until supplies run out.  So hurry!

(Thanks to Joe B. for the heads up...and for costing me $60! Just ordered 3 of my all time favorite movies in Criterion Blu-ray editions for $19.99 each.)
