In this coming of age drama, director Gurinder Chadha delves into the immigrant experience of working class Pakistanis in Thatcher's Great Britain. Much like Bend It Like Beckham, Blinded by the Light is largely about the culture clash between traditional "Asian" parents and their anglicized offspring. This movie, however, also shines a light on the bigotry and fanaticism of far-right extremists (the NF) and their sympathizers, who because of rising unemployment, become more and more vitriolic in their treatment of non-white immigrants. Javed puts a human face on the trials of trying to become your own person in the face of overwhelming cultural pressures to conform, as wells as societal pressures to accept second-class citizenship. Javed faces these each of challenges using the music of the "Boss', Bruce Springsteen, as his guide, even singing portions of Springsteen's iconic songs in certain situations. Based on a memoir, this is a very specific look at a turbulent time period in Great Britain's recent history, through the eyes of someone who lived it.

Synopsis: Javed, a British Pakistani teen living in Luton, England, in 1987, writes poetry to escape pressure from his father at home and racial intolerance at school. But he finds inspiration and hope from an unexpected source--Bruce Springsteen--whose music empowers Javed to find his own unique voice.

A lot of racial humor and good music in this one.

Took a bit to get going and then it had its moments. The best part of this movie was the music and then ending with pictures of the real people that it was based on. Co-pilot fell asleep due to the boring parts so use 120X FF as needed!
