Slow but calculated plotline bringing you the beginnings of how the Joker came to be. Joaquin Phoenix shines in this and mastered playing the joker. A must see but be warned of extreme violence at times.

Holy cow, is Joaquin Phoenix insane or what??? After this finished, I asked myself - what did you just watch? This movie is the lead into how the Joker became the Joker, pre-Batman. It's a wild ride of emotions. One minute I'm feeling sorry for Arthur (Joaquin), the next minute he kills someone...point-blank. The roller coaster of emotions is crazy, but that's a day in the life of a bi-polar person. There is a LOT of violence portrayed so beware.

Don't forget to watch the "extras." Lots of insight by the director.
