An ITV Nordic noir detective series, which was written, directed, and produced by Swedish screenwriter Hans Rosenfeldt, creator of "The Bridge" and "The Tunnel" (also a fantastic series, currently available on Prime.) There's been a trend lately in British crime drama to somehow implicate the main detective (or their families) in the ongoing investigation. Marcella does this, as well as throwing out a sizeable number of red herrings. And I mean, a lot. The scripting is complex, but not too intricate in it's presentation to follow along with. Marcella's character is somewhat confrontational, and a bit of a bulldozer, which serves to counterpoint her cute, petite stature. Not the sort of investigating officer I'm used to, but it works, and is understandable given her history, as well as the nature of the ongoing case she is working on.

A second series also aired last year, with a third on the horizon. After being released on ITV, seasons were made available worldwide to view on Netflix.
