glad to hear this does not happen often.  it didnt change when i put it on my list, it changed when my wish was granted.  i got in on the list at position 112.     avatar bluray just came in, but i was really early on that one, position 9 at the start :).

i have been putting blurays on my want list for some time now.  finally got in the top spot for terminator salvation on bluray and when i get the wish granted, its for the dvd widescreen copy.  i know for a fact i put it on my wishlist as a bluray.  has this happened to anyone else?  i hope its an isolated incident because if it happens to all my wanted blurays, im gonna get smoked!

good post danielle, that answers the question why they dont "create" a million credits and go wild.  i wonder what the dollar value for each unbacked credit it.  i guarantee you its not $4.95.  im also pretty sure that escrow is used as collateral for other things.  see what else you can find.  this is getting interesting!

please do because i find that unbelieveable.  where do they get their dvd's from?  you have to figure they could give away 100 credits per day.  also, i can poke a hole in this because they state in the kiosk that the money from there goes to help pay for the site and labels.  that tells me they dont put dvd's in to cover that cost.  if that were the case then that money is not paying for the site, its paying to load new dvd's into the system.

one other observation i was just making to myself, in the real world when they want to fix an inflationary environment then they devalue the asset.  i just got snow white on here in bluray.  there are 3 disks and bluray discs are double what dvd's are.  so, if you valued the credits at 3.50 each, i just spent $21 for a used movie.  not a great deal at all.  probably could have gotten it for much less on ebay.  but you see, that is a devaluation of the asset because they cost twice as much.  bluray's dont cost 100% more than dvd's in stores.  this, in itself, is taking credits off the system.  pretty soon, all movies traded in here will be bluray just like we dont trade vhs anymore.  but, here in lies the rub... can this site survive until bluray is only traded in here?  that will take many years for that to happen.

also, when i went on the wait list, i was first and only waited a week.  i think others have already done the math.

ok, i see what your saying.  but the promotion he is talking about is one of many reasons why the credits are devaluing.  i think we can all agree on that.

kathryn, they are handed out.  when i joined i got like 5 or 6.... i forget.  i had some damaged movies come it, they just credited me back.  never told to return and the person that sent it kept the credit.  if you go to the kiosk, you can buy as many as you want.  all of those instances, are creating credits out of thin air.  there is no denying it.  once the system gets overloaded with cheap credits, it will collapse.  not saying it will happen tomorrow, but it will happen.  i love this site too, i really wish it were not this way.  top 25 movies have nothing to do with it, its total volume.  the credit does not care if its spent on an old movie or the most popular one.  that is a moot point.  more than likely what your seeing with the disney stuff is people are ditching worthless movies for a credit and getting in line for the good stuff (like disney) that they can get with that same credit.  then they probably post it on craigslist or something like that.  they get $10 instead of $3 - 3.50.  when i first got on here, the cheapest credit i could get was 4.25.  now i can get them for 3.  its happening before our very eyes.  sorry.

dont be so quick to can shawn's argument.  this is the exact same thing that our govt is doing.  if i have $1 and the powers that be create another one out of thin air, then my dollar is only worth $.50.  the money supply has been doubled.  this is how inflation is created.  if inflation goes up, it costs more to buy the exact same thing.  or, the credit has lost value and goes down (like the euro right now)  this site hands out credits like candy, they have to come from somewhere and someone has to pay for them.  if it were that easy, they would just create millions of credits and sell all movies on ebay for a $1.  economics 101.
