I would like to see requestor conditions just for the reason you mentioned JessyBird03.  I just received a requested DVD with the Blockbuster sticker covering the entire disc.  I use a slot loaded DVD player to play movies and it states in the manual to not insert movies with stickers/decals on them.  While the movie may be perfectly playable in a regular player, it the primary player I use, it can also play perfectly, but I risk damaging my machine (it is actually a Dell Hybrid computer).

I would like to be able to have an RC requesting senders decline my request if their movie has this sticker on the disc for this reason.  I will try the movie in another player, and if it plays correctly, I will mark it received as it is not an illegally posted movie.  Just not very compatible for my primary means to watch DVDs.

"- I cut a small piece of bubble wrap, and place it over the hard plastic prong piece (what the heck is it called? *gRiN*) that's in the center of the disc that holds it in place."

I call it a hub.

The original question was:

"Okay, let's say you purchase a brand new DVD and it comes with a "digital copy" which you can download via itunes/windows media and play on your ipod/phone.

Now say, you want to keep the DVD but find that you do not want the digital copy...is it okay to make a post on Bazaar offering the digital copy for a credit? "

Offering credits for a digital only copy would encourage the separation of the Digital Copy from the movie disc it came with for a credit, or in effect selling it.  I am sure if the movie studios learn this is allowed (assuming SaDVD goes that route) they will most likely scream bloody murder as the inclusion of a digital version or a full DVD version with a Blue-Ray is not to let the purchaser resell or profit from the additional copy but to provide a wider viewing option for the owner of the original movie purchased.

I understand the legalities rest with the lister, however, as SaDVD prohibits the swaping of illegal copies, it seems they would also prohibit the separation of multiple copies in one case of the same movie for the same reason.

This is from Fox regarding their digital copies:

"A serial  number will be reissued provided you are the original owner of the DVD and have the original serial code card."

This seems to indicate they did not want the digital copy, standard DVD copy or any other additional copies of the same movie distributed apart from the main movie in the purchase.

This was from www.foxdigitalcopy.com/  and selecting SUPPORT and then selecting SERIAL NUMBER/LICENSES.

It is my belief that offering digital copies, or DVD copies included in a Blu-Ray or HD package without including ALL of the discs (i.e. the primary movie discs) that were in the package is illegal.  If you do not want the digital copy, leave it in the package unclaimed.

As far as sending the digital copy disc in a movie where it was included, they can send it, but if it has been redeemed already and as the receiver is not the original owner, it may be worthless to them.  I believe the rule should be, Digital copy discs cannot be posted separate from the movie disc it came with for swapping or in the bazaar.  The digital copy disc must be included, however, the receiver should not be expecting the digital copy to be available and no credit is given for the digital copy disc (or extra DVD in the case of HD/Blu-Ray where both are included).

A movie that has a digital copy, std DVD, and Blu-Ray should only be one credit as only one movie is being requested.  If the movie came with these versions, ALL discs must be included in order to receive the credit, not just the DVD or just the Blu-Ray.

I am a member of PBS as well as this site.  I must say that PBS members respond, on average, far quicker to requests for books that I have experienced here.  Admittedly, I have not posted any DVDs for swapping, but I do buy credits outright and to date, I have several DVDs where the person listing them has failed to respond in any fashion to the request.

I cancelled National Security (2 separate copies)

High Crimes

Drop Zone

I also have had issues with the lister mailing the DVD days (I have seen someone mark it mailed up to 4-5 days) BEFORE they actually mailed the item based on postmarks and the system stating when it was marked mailed.

As it sits right now, I am waiting six days and counting from the time a DVD was marked as mailed from Kansas.  It is only 2-3 states away and I am in the southern part (almost on the border) of my state!  I could have driven there and back by now!  They did use DC, it still states it is in Kansas (if it is correct).

It is frustrating because I would just about bet that if/when it arrives it will most likely have been marked mailed days before it actually was (not counting the most generous 48 hours the site gives).

It seems that the ones getting "burned" are those waiting for discs.  It isn't really "burned" per se, in most cases the DVD will eventually arrive, but it seems that some could put a little more effort in checking their accounts and if they do not want to participate any longer, to remove their discs from the list or place it on holiday hold.

I have a request that has been in the system just over the 5-day mark, yet the system has not shifted it to the next holder on the list.  Instead, I am still stuck in limbo with someone who obviously has no intentions of sending it.  I have cancelled movie requests because they have gone unanswered (ignored) by the lister for long periods of time, which wastes time on my part.

I do not list DVDs and have not listed any "just to get a free credit."  I may consider sending DVDs in the future, but I do not list something I have no intention of sending.

I wish SaDVD would reduce the wait time a lister has from 5 days down to 2 and make the shift quicker to the next available copy holder.

It is a very frustrating site because it seems many may try to get a "free" disc and then leave the site with their free disc.

The disc that has been waiting for over 5 days?  That member only has two other discs listed and both were listed early last year.  Seems maybe they don't check their membership any longer...?

On PBS I use DC so I get the credit when the book is marked shipped.  I do not mark the book shipped until the mailman has removed it from my mailbox so those who order from me know that when the site tells them the book has been mailed, IT HAS BEEN MAILED!  By the way, most PBS books are sent Media Mail so they can be expected to take a little longer to arrive not the First Class that DVDs are sent.

Has to be a way to weed these bad seeds out before they cause irreparable harm to the site.  Maybe make it you don't get the free credit until listing 10 DVDs AND sending out at least one that is marked received by another member.  That may stop some from doing it?

So sorry.  Off my soapbox of frustration.

When you purchase the DVD that includes the digital copy, it seems you are purchasing ONE version with the bonus.

If you follow the Recording Industry policies, sending one without the other would split this creating two playable versions (albeit on different media types) but creating two different playable copies just the same.  Seems that would violate the policies when purchasing.  Your purchase is for different versions of ONE movie and I bet the fine print will state that all must be kept together.

Believe if you send the DVD, the digital copy should either be sent or destroyed, and it is most likely prohibited to send the digital copy (or give it away) while retaining the playable.

This probably holds true for Blu-Ray discs that also include a standard playing DVD inside.  All will most likely need to be kept together or you get three movies (Blu-Ray, STD DVD, and Digital Copy - if that is what is included) for the price of one movie.

I don't think they include all versions to allow the splitting of them.  It probably follows rules like software archiving rules.  You can make the copy, but if you transfer ownership, you must transfer all copies as well....

I was looking for the movie First Daughter with Mariel Hemingway, but couldn't find it listed.

Do I did a search for her name and found First Shot.  Inside the description there is a reference to First Daughter with an incorrect link to another movie of the same name.

How can these incorrect links be corrected?  The link it sent me to was Link which is not the same movie and this one does not have Mariel Hemingway in it.

The one she is in she portrays a Secret Service Agent guarding the First Daughter on a camping trip (the daughter is sick of the security) and someone is out to kidnap the First Daughter during the trip.

Thanks
