Alexis Bledel brings all of her Gilmore Girls adorability to bear on Post Grad. Brand-new college graduate Ryden Malby (Bledel) has her future all mapped out--but when she loses her dream job with a publishing firm to her ... more »long-time school nemesis, she has to move back in with her family. Here the movie comes alive, because her family is played by such old pros as Michael Keaton, Jane Lynch (co-star of numerous Christopher Guest comedies), and Carol Burnett. All of them get to wallow in entertaining eccentricities that pretty much steal the movie away from Bledel. Not because she?s a bad actress--on the contrary, she?s quite charming--but because the problems she faces don?t amount to much. She has to hold some jobs that she doesn?t like and she has to choose between the handsome indie-rocker/law student who?s always been in love with her (Zach Gilford, Friday Night Lights) and the handsome Brazilian infomercial director who lives across the street (Rodrigo Santoro, completely unrecognizable from his role in 300). We should all have such problems. Post Grad, much like Ryden herself, succeeds in the engaging moments of character goofiness and haphazard incidents, but doesn?t really know what it wants to do with itself when it grows up. --Bret Fetzer« less
