Help Center - I received a DVD I didn't request!

Search Terms:

If you received a DVD you didn't request (a title you don't recognize), most likely the sender put the wrong DVD into the SwapaDVD Wrapper with your address on it.

  • The DVD you received may have been requested by another member, who may have gotten your DVD.
  • It is also possible that the sender reprinted a wrapper she or he used to send you a DVD in the past, and sent this DVD to you instead of to its proper requestor.
    • If the SwapaDVD wrapper was used, check the second page of the wrapper to see the title of the DVD that was supposed to be sent to you using this wrapper.

Once you find out who sent you the DVD, you can contact him or her and if the DVD was intended for another member, the sender can give you postage and the mailing address and you can send it along to that person.

  • The sender can snail-mail you a stamped, addressed envelope or label OR you can use PayPal to transfer the postage if that works for both of you.

A burned (homemade copy) of a DVD is also considered a wrong DVD.

  • If you receive a burned DVD please contact us immediately.  These are illegal.

How to find the sender of the DVD to sort this out:

  • If the SwapaDVD wrapper was used, check the second page of the wrapper to see the title of the DVD that was supposed to be sent to you using this wrapper.

    • Look on your Transaction Archive first, then your Past Transactions (in your Transaction Archive), to find the DVD named on page 2 of the SwapaDVD wrapper.
    • Use the button on the transaction for that DVD to send a Personal Message to the sender.
    • DO NOT mark the DVD received (or received with a problem)--just send the PM first
    • If this sender does not respond to your PM within a week, or does not send you the correct one:
      • You can also mark this DVD received as a Wrong DVD
      • This will refund your credit and will also note this Problem transaction on the sender's account
        • this will also re-order the DVD for you automatically if there is another copy in the system
      • One problem transaction will not affect a sender's account standing.  A pattern of problem mailing will jeopardize SwapaDVD membership, however.
  • If page 2 of the SwapaDVD Wrapper was not used, check your active transactions:

    • Go to the En Route to Me tab in My Account.
    • You can get there by clicking My Account in the toolbar at the top of the site, and then clicking the En Route to Me tab (scroll down if necessary to see this tab).
      • Compare the state of origin on the package return address with the state of origin of each DVD on your DVDs en Route tab in My Account.  The state shows on the right of the transaction, in the "speech bubble" containing your address.
      • If there is a DVD that is listed there as coming from the same state, click on the transaction and send a Personal Message to this sender asking if he or she sent you this DVD by mistake.
        • If he or she did,
          • and sent your DVD to another requestor, he or she can offer each of you credit or postage to send the DVDs to one another; the sender can provide the addresses in Personal Messages.  When each of you get the correct DVDs, you can mark them received.
          • and he or she still has the DVD she was supposed to send you, he or she can offer to send the correct DVD to you. You are not obligated to send the extra DVD back, but it is a nice thing to do, especially if the sender is a new member.
        • If he or she didn't send you this DVD, or if there is no DVD on your En Route to Me tab that was mailed from the same state as the return address on the DVD you received, check your Transaction Archive, as described below.
        • If this sender does not respond to your PM within a week, OR does not send you the correct one (or you do not receive the correct one from the other requestor):
          • You can also mark this DVD received as a Wrong DVD
          • This will refund your credit and will also note this Problem transaction on the sender's account
          • This will also automatically re-order the DVD in your account if there is another copy in the system
          • One problem transaction will not affect a sender's account standing.  A pattern of problem mailing will jeopardize SwapaDVD membership, however.
  • Then, check your past transactions:

    • Go to your Transaction Archive, by clicking the link at the top of the My Account page, in the yellow bar.
    • Sort by  Requested by Me - All - Date Requested - Descending
    • Find the transaction for this DVD that matches the sender name and state of mailing origin (on the right of the transaction) as compared with the return address on the package.
    • Click on that transaction to send a Personal Message to the sender asking if he or she sent you this DVD.
      • If he or she did: he or she can offer you credit or postage to send the DVD to the proper requestor.  The sender can provide the address in a Personal Message.

There is also the possibility that you ordered a DVD online (e.g., from Amazon.com), and this was an incorrect shipment outside of SwapaDVD.

If you cannot figure out who sent you the DVD, you can contact us to ask us to investigate. Please provide the DVD title and whatever information you have for the sender's return address on the package.
