Movie Reviews

Great documentary, but.......

"I am a hard of hearing female filmmaker, actress, producer, writer, and etc, and it was wonderful to see Barbra Streisand finally discuss fully (maybe not) about her films. Yentl will always be my favorite, and I was certainly very impressed with her being so determined to finish the film in timely manner. If Barbra want to do another film herself and prove everyone that she can do it all, so Im sure we all would be able to read the credits "Actor, director, producer, writer, editor, make-up artist, CATERER :) (Shirley Maclaine's joke during the Golden Globe awards)..." with her name next to those positions! That woman is ABLE to do EVERYTHING .... I mean, everything.... This is one heck of a smart woman! I would love to be an actress in her movie because I know I would feel so safe in her hands since she knows what she is doing from A to Z! This DVD taught me so much about her, directing itself, and it is so essential for those filmmakers out there... except for those who are hard of hearing or deaf.. The reason for that is.... there are NO captions nor subtitles.... I was able to comprehend Streisands comment whenever I can read her lips, but voice overs.... no, no. :( Anyway, I wish I can say more about this dvd, but all I can say is that it has so much montages and pictures from her movies. I love pictures, so I was glad there were plenty of them. I espically love her quote at the end of the move... So perfect for all the filmmakers out there... Wanna know what it was? BUY THIS DVD/VHS!!!! :) Then you can find out yourself!Oh, yeah..... need more special features on this dvd... I wanted MORE, MORE, MORE, and also, 60 mins aint enuff! I know she have so much more to say than all of this!--CARRIE MONTONEY FROM CHI-TOWN!"
What a wonderful woman

"One of the things I love most about Barbra is her intelligence. It shows in this DVD as she talks in great length about the films she's directed. Not a dull moment. She is incredibly interesting. You could listen to her talk all day long. Now if only Yentle and Prince of Tides would come out on DVD."
"No Frills" Director DVD

"About an hour in length, the Streisand Director's DVD provides the following: a new interview with Streisand, brief interviews with Marvin Hamlish, Brenda Vacarro, Mimi Rogers, etc., and clips from several movies.Since Streisand has directed only three films (Yentl, The Prince of Tides, and The Mirror Has Two Faces), the vast majority of the DVD centers on these. In the interview, Streisand provides considerable insight into the making of these three films; in some cases, she discusses particular scenes. Some of the material will not be new to the Streisand aficionado since the DVD attempts to provide a background for Streisand the artist in order to provide the proper context for Streisand the director. The interview, of course, contains new material. The DVD is well put together. Its only major flaw is that some of the clips from Streisand's films are of low quality, evident in DVD's high resolution. I also would have preferred a few more bonus features.A definite must for those interested in Streisand as a filmmaker, this DVD should also be part of the collection of those who cherish Yentl, Prince of Tides, or Mirror."
