Reviewed on 3/8/2012...
I recently read that Grant himself fell in love with the previous version of this film 'love affair' and persuaded the director to do a remake of it. His passion for the film is evident (though I must say I don't think this is his best acting) so I just wish that he could have had a better female star alongside him.

Deborah Kerr is perfect for her role in The King and I, very prim and proper, formal, stiff. But this role calls for smoldering romance, instant connection between the two when they meet on the boat. She has no allure, and in spite of their being a similar age, I always feel like she is more like his mother- very creepy!

The story of course, is classic and must be respected. The colouring is beautiful and the grandmother excellent, she really makes the film. Definitely a film that must be seen, but maybe not kept in your collection.
