Movie Reviews

Giacometti lives
CavemanPlato | Riverside, Ca. United States | 04/08/2004
(5 out of 5 stars)

"To see the master alive and painting in his studio, walking the streets and meeting with friends is a rare privlege and worth the price of the ticket alone. This DVD has several documentaries explore the artist's work and life. The films include beautiful filmed sequences in the studio and marvelous details of the paintings. The post-war zeitgeist and atmosphere shines through many details and gives a context to Giacometti's research. Interviews with people who knew him show the man. Ecce Homo. Outstanding job, towers above most DVDs on artists."

"Two ecxellent films with interviews of people that knew and posed for Alberto Giacometti. Also Giacometti himself. A great look into the works and ideas of the artist. Through the interviews one can sense the warmth of humane feelings the artist had in his interaction with people who happen to meet or pose for him. As one person says while meeting Giacometti: "at once you know he is offering you, he is granting you a moment, a short while, a moment which lets you be with him". The films manage to give you a chance to "meet" with Giacometti."
Very interesting

"It is fascinating to see from up so close the life of an artistic legend. There is also a good biography on him out recently (can't remember). Great footage and takes that I did not know existed. Strongly recommend it if you are a Giacometti fan or just interested in discovering more about him.

O."
