"My curiosity about Alicia Alonso made me purchase this to study her. As a ballet student, this was a valuable view of her artistry and technical abilities, especially her beats on pointe, which were truly amazing; her feet looked like feathers. Never mind the fact that she was human, because when she danced, she appeared weightless and beautiful, even though she was not a great classic beauty. Also worth watching are the costumes she wore and the way she wore her hair and general demeanor. It was refreshing to see such classicism in an age of spandex unitards. There was no dialog in this DVD, only footage of her dancing, which spoke for itself. Although it may be boring to some who like commentary and so on, the dancing footage of this great artist was truly worth the cost of this video and I recommend it to anyone who wants to be entertained by a great ballerina, not to mention the dance student who would be much enriched by learning from the example of this woman."

"What disappoints in this dvd is what's not on it. Variations and codas are missing from Don Quijote 1968 and Black Swan pas de deux 1958 with Plisetsky and Youskevitch respectively.Great loss.Romeo and Juliet bedroom scene choreography by Alberto Alonso takes up space, so too does Oedipus Rex. Boring... Jewels, are the 1968 complete black swan with Plisetsky.Definitive...Plus,...Carmen suite,GISELLE(Pas)La Peri (sumptuous)and pot pourrie variations from La Fille Mal Gardee,COPPELIA,and the complete Grand Pas De Quatre as Taglioni from 1960."

"You must watch to understand her gifts. So sad, the US government continues to block most Cuban artists from visiting and sharing their gifts with us."
