What a wonderful suprise this movie is. After Avengers: Age of Ultron comes this gem. And the movie plays its "placement" beautifully. What do I mean by placement? In the movies leading up to Ant Man, both Marvel and other comapnies, have been 'upping the stakes'. Trying to top each other in the size of the fights (see Man of Steel) and the stakes (Age of Ultron). With everything getting bigger, louder and messier, Ant Man goes the other direction. Its small. At least, small by Marvel standards. It even takes shots at the escalating boom booms by playing their action sequences for laughs. (I wont spoil the scene by explaining it but look out for the train scene) This movie, because of Marvels previous entries, is a wonderful change of pace. The funniest of the Marvel movies with wonderful performances all around, especially from Paul Rudd (I have to learn to trust whoever does the casting for Marvel more, I cringed thinking of Rudd being any kind of superhero, but he nails it) and Michael Douglass. This isnt a perfect film, the villian pretty much sucks, hes way too cookie cutter. But its not nearly enough to drag it down. Ant Man is fun and inventive. I look forward to the next Ant Man with high hopes. Oh, and a little aside. My wife, who hates superhero movies, loved this. So there you go.
