Feels like a true story but was only loosely based on the real-life murder spree of Charles Starkweather and his girlfriend, Caril Ann Fugate in 1958 according to one source. A very young Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek, and other actors and actresses had a stellar acting performance in this. The way the plotline was written, it makes viewers like these characters when they should not. A must watch but be warned this is very gritty and cringeworthy for most!

I have heard decent reviews about this movie and thought I would give it a go. I did not like Martin Sheen's character, Kit and thought even less of Spacek's Holly. You already know Kit was going to be trouble since he is ten years older than Holly. She's 15 thus making him 25. Her father wanted to protect her innocence which Kit robs her of. Kit was described by Holly as "trigger happy," but I have a better label for him: crazy. In my opinion there was no justification behind his killings, which started with Holly's father. As the spree continues, the only justification offered was there could be no witnesses, but yet Holly herself is one since she has not committed any murder. She is no victim either. Even for a 15 year old, you would think Holly would have some sense to know right from wrong. There were times I wanted to turn off the movie, but held off from doing hoping there was a unhappily ever after for Kit.
