"Wrestling" is too polite of a term

"Combat Zone Wrestling or CZW is one of many independent wrestling promotions that rose from the popularity that is the blood-and-guts approach of Extreme Championship Wrestling(ECW. Bloodied foreheads, broken tables, barbed wire, and crowd interaction are trademarks of this particularly brutal style of professional wrestling. However, where ECW excelled with mature storylines and actual wrestling (gasp!), CZW is nothing more than a pretender to the throne. "CZW: Scarred" contains very little wrestling. Rather, we are treated to matches involving men finding creative ways in which to maim and mutilate each other with such props as light tubes and weedwackers (yes, you read that last part right). This is little more than a glorified backyard federation. As a matter of fact, several of these matches were filmed in a backyard. The sad fact of the matter is CZW actually has some talented wrestlers, but you would not know it from this particular DVD. There is absolutely no psychology or visceral feelings to go along with any of these matches. Rather, you get the "I-slice-you/you-slice-me" approach that is intended solely for shock value. It's not that I am against hardcore wrestling. To the contrary; Wrestlers like Terry Funk and Mick Foley have successfully utilized blood and other hardcore elements in their matches, but were still able to tell a compelling story in the process. The only story CZW intends to tell is one detailing the importance of having a good education. On the plus side, "CZW: Scarred" is a professionally-produced slick DVD with nice sound and video quality, which is more than I can say for other wrestling DVDs. The DVD clocks in at about 90 minutes with (only) three complete matches and a plethora of highlights and video clips. Hey, if watching grown men slice each other to ribbons is your thing, this is a DVD for you. However, if you want some actual wrestling with hardcore fighting, take a pass."

"I live in Philadelphia, so I get to see a lot of CZW shows, and I have to say that this is one of my favorites. CZW is an ultraviolent promotion that loves to use lighttubes, thumbtacks, barbed wire, and even weedwhackers as much as possible. This event was held in Delaware and was CZW's first TOD.
Zandig vs Nate Hatred ( Light tube barbed wire flyer match)-
Stupid match, becuase Lobo and his boys broke it up. But it marks the return of Messiah. 2/10
The green phantom & Arsenal vs the Hardcore Ninjas- Some dudes from IWS put on an ok match. Nice Sit-out tiger piledriver at the end. 5/10
Necro Butcher vs Wifebeater(Falls Count Anywhere)- Pretty good match nice ending when Wifebeater Chokensteins Necro off the stage onto chairs. 7/10
Nick Gage vs "Mr. Insanity" Toby Klein(Barbed Wire boards and nail strips)- An ok match which marks the debut in CZW of Insanity. No real high spots in this one. 6/10
Sick Nick Mondo vs Homeless Jimmy (Falls Count Anywhere)- Best match of the night, only becuase at the end a great bump in which Mondo Assault Drivers Jimmy off of a truck onto light tube cabin and tables. 9/10
Backseat Boys vs Sonjay&Derick Frazier vs New Skool vs John Dahmer and Eric Tuttle- Pretty good match. (4/10)
Justice Pain vs Ruckus vs Nick Berk- Very good technical match. 6/10
Nick Gage vs Wifebeater(panes of glass match)- Great match because the pane of glass is so awesome. Great start to the match. 9/10
Nick Mondo vs Messiah(fans bring the weapons match)- Messiahs first match back, and he goes out incredibly. 8/10
Final Match- Nick Mondo vs Wifebeater(200 light tubes match)- Best match of the night, so much blood, bucket of salt, and even the weedwhacker!!!!. 20/10

"This is the first annual TOD and its a doozy. Everyone gave there all and it shows in this tournament. Eventhough this was filmed back in 2001 it is still right up there with todays standard of ultraviolence. In this dvd you'll see "Sick" Nick Mondo(now unfortunatly retired) W.B (the beater) Mr Insanity Toby Klien,Hardcore Nick Gage and many more. Some of the matches included are panes of glass, 200 light tubes, fans bring the weapons and even a weedwacker shows up. Some highlights are a assault driver off a removal truck(20 feet) through glass and tables, the 200 light tube match and theres even some good normal no weapons wrestling on here aswell. Ive said it once and Ill say it again CZW is the best indy fed out there today and John Zandig is one of the best promoters out there. If you like any so called wwe "hardcore" match youll love this. This was one of my 1st CZW events I brought and 25 tapes later I still love their events, and after seeing this tape you will too!"
