Delicious! A sensuous rediscovery of wonderfully fine music
Ingrid Heyn | Melbourne, Australia | 05/08/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

"There can be no better introduction to madrigals, if one wishes for the visual as well as the audio, than this superb DVD in which the Consort of Musicke delight and enchant the viewer. Set in a sumptuously beautiful venue within a palazzo of the type known to have hosted performances of madrigals and other fine singing of the period, this DVD gives vivid swatches of colour, erotic half-glances, macabre masks, fluttery wisps of drapery, and of course the wonderful, wonderful singing of these fine singers in a performance that will give great pleasure.

The Italian vocal music of the baroque is always both full of drama and very beautiful - sensuous and purity combined into a quite irresistible blending of the senses. The enthusiasm and knowledge of Anthony Rooley as he discusses these madrigals is enchanting to see, and the performances are bliss themselves.

It's hard to understand how anyone could not be more than pleased with this DVD. All I can say is... enjoy!"
